Jon Hamm made a career out of being a dramatic leading man, despite having great comedic skills in 30 Rock, Bridesmaids, and Confess, Fletch, and is returning to heavy drama with the latest season of FX’s Fargo. In the upcoming season of the crime anthology series, Hamm plays North Dakota Sheriff Roy Tillman, a strict lawman who goes by the book and thinks his word is law.

While doing this type of role is up his usual brand, another type of role has dodged Hamm for years now: a comic book movie role. He was rumored to be Doctor Strange back in 2014 but said at the time he made the “right choice” in not partaking just yet. Hamm had been in talks to be Mister Sinister for the canceled Gambit solo feature as well as rumored to appear in The New Mutants film.

Talking to ScreenRant, Hamm said he’s not in a hurry to get into a comic book movie but would love to still join the Marvel team down the road.

“I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told,” the actor said.

“Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”

Doom is heavily rumored to be the new focus of the upcoming Marvel phase as the studio clears itself of Kang and Jonathan Majors.
