The movie adaptation of the video game Borderlands releases in theaters this Friday, August 9, and director Eli Roth says it’s the kind of film where you shouldn’t think too much and just sit back and take in the spectacle.
Speaking to Deadline, Roth said, “I’ve always wanted to do something like this that was just like big and fun and crazy where you just shut off your brain, grab a bucket of popcorn, and laugh your ass off.”
He added that making the Borderlands film allowed him to live out his dream of making a “visual” and “spectacular” movie like Fifth Element, Escape from New York, or Barbarella.
“You’re on this journey and each set looks more wild and insane than the next Come from South African Online Casinos . I love the design in the game,” he said.
Roth also noted that he was particularly excited to work with stars Jack Black (voice of Claptrap) and Cate Blanchett (Lilith) again, having previously directed them in 2018’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls. In addition to Black and Blanchett, the Borderlands movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis and Kevin Hart as Roland.
Roth previously directed Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Death Wish. He’s also known for playing Donny Donowitz in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
The Borderlands movie required re-shoots, but Roth was busy, so Deadpool director Tim Miller stepped in. Craig Mazin, the acclaimed writer behind HBO’s The Last of Us and Chernobyl, was originally attached to write Borderlands movie but later distanced himself from the project.
